In this session, attendees will learn how to leverage students’ native language to truly develop key, grade-level academic vocabulary. The combination of high frequency vocabulary glossaries (for Math, Science and ELA) and corresponding vocabulary journals helps English Learners connect and reinforce learning across both ESL and content area classes. Participants will learn practical, hands-on strategies to increase students’ vocabulary, and as a result, their engagement in learning; to improve academic writing in Math in particular; and to enable a native language home-school connection. Attendees will receive a complete set of classroom materials to implement during the school year.
